The use of computer technology to get access to, manage, and use information to aid in instruction is known as information and communication technology, or ICT, as a learning instrument. By making the teacher and the learner immediately access a significant amount of information, it revolutionizes the classroom setting into an interactive space. Internet search engines like Google, electronic books, educational databases, electronic books, and video platforms like YouTube and Khan Academy are but a few examples. Through the provision of support to various learning styles and paces, these materials increase learning content diversity and accessibility.
ICT's role as a source of information is essential to teaching and learning since it encourages independent learning. It enables learners to research, keep up with current events, and learn things better than from a textbook. Teachers have electronic lesson plans that aid instructional design, multimedia teaching aids, and timely curricular content. It closes the gap between in-class learning and actual world knowledge as well as improves the quality of learning.
Even though ICT as a source of information has benefits like flexibility, interactivity, and access to current information, it has its drawbacks too. The negative side of the digital divide that holds back students behind students with insufficient access to technology or the internet is one such drawback. Also, because of the possibility of information overload and exposure to deceptive sources, critical media literacy abilities have to be acquired by both students and teachers.
Integration of ICT in the classroom needs careful planning. Teachers can use interactive tutorials, some video resources, and guided research assignments to enhance classes. Key concepts can be reinforced using online platforms such as TED-Ed, National Geographic Education, and Google Scholar. Teachers must also encourage digital citizenship and information assessment skills to make integration successful.
I have managed to become an autonomous learner capable of accessing and verifying information autonomously thanks to the use of ICT in education. Access to educational ICT facilities at the community level increases lifelong learning, decreases educational inequalities, and enables individuals to make well-informed decisions. To make certain that ICT enriches rich learning experiences rather than replacing them, teachers should make it a point to consider continually, reflectively, the functions being utilized with technology.

YouTube is a useful informative tool in teaching and learning because it helps students and teachers access a large amount of information through videos. It allows teachers to show lessons in a more visual and interesting way, which can make learning easier and more enjoyable. For example, a science teacher can use a video to show how a volcano erupts, or a math teacher can play a video that explains how to solve equations step by step. Educational channels like Khan Academy, Crash Course, and National Geographic offer videos that explain school subjects clearly. These videos are especially helpful for students who understand better when they see or hear something, not just read it.
YouTube also helps students learn at their own pace. If a student does not understand a topic right away, they can pause the video, rewind it, or watch it again later. This supports different learning speeds and helps students feel more confident. Teachers can also create YouTube playlists for their students, linking videos that match the lesson and give extra help.
However, there are some problems too. Not all videos on YouTube are accurate or useful for school. Some may have wrong information or may not be made for learning. Also, students can easily get distracted by other videos that are not related to their studies. Because of this, teachers should guide students on what to watch and how to check if the video is trustworthy.
Even with these issues, YouTube is still a great tool when used properly. It helps bring lessons to life and makes learning more exciting. It also gives students access to quality information, even if they don’t have many books or school resources. For example, in rural areas where teachers may not be available for all subjects, students can still learn through YouTube videos. Overall, YouTube is a strong example of how technology can help students learn better by giving them the right information in an easy and interesting way.
